We have prayed those words of the Our Father often—Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us—and so we can easily gloss over them until we find ourselves angry, hurt or resentful about a person, or situation and unable to forgive. We can’t seem to find it in ourselves to move on from a painful event despite our best efforts, or we see that our actions have hurt a loved one, yet we are reluctant to ask forgiveness. What does our faith teach us? How have others—saints and ordinary people alike—dealt with having to forgive or to ask pardon? What does St. Josemaria mean when he says, I have not needed to learn to forgive because Jesus Christ has taught me how to love.” Join us for a talk and discussion in which we will see how and why learning to forgive and be forgiven is central to our happiness.

This will enable us to place our trust in God and look to the future with an open spirit and optimism. Differences don’t have to ruin friendships—in fact, they can make them stronger when handled with respect and understanding. In our latest YouTube video, Courageous Dialogue, we share a story from a recent TED Talk that highlights this beautifully. Two close friends, with families just as close, faced a major difference during the 2016 election. Despite their differing votes, one mom carefully considered how her response to her children’s questions could either strengthen or harm their friendship. She chose to focus on the common ground—they both voted based on what they believed was best for the country. This choice didn’t damage their relationship; it reinforced it.

This story is a powerful reminder that even in the face of deep differences, we don’t have to let them divide us. We can choose to foster understanding, respect different viewpoints, and maintain the bonds that matter most. In our conversations, especially on sensitive topics, it’s essential to listen, find common ground, and prioritize the relationship over winning an argument.
